East LA Rotary & Kideract Donate Shelter Boxes for Nepal Relief

Posted By cchacon68

The East LA Rotary and our elementary school Kideract Club, based at Fourth Street Elementary School donated the funds for a total of three Shelter Boxes to be sent to Nepal in the aftermath of the recent earthquake, which left more than 8,000 dead, and many more thousands displaced because their homes have been destroyed.

Shelter Box is a Rotary international project partnership that provides the essentials people need to begin rebuilding their lives in the aftermath of a disaster. Boxes are tailored to a disaster but typically contains a disaster relief tent for a family, thermal blankets and groundsheets, water storage and purification equipment, solar lamps, cooking utensils, a basic tool kit, mosquito nets and a children’s activity pack.

This donation is part of Rotary’s commitment to provide short-term disaster aid and long-term recovery and rebuilding assistance to Nepal.  In the past, the Rotary Club of East Los Angeles funded a project to drill water wells in a Nepalese village, providing clean, running water to hundreds of people for the first time.
